Limited Edition Alpaca Yarn

$35.00

Beautifully creamy white alpaca yarn, lovingly spun in Victoria from our very own darling flock of alpacas. Soft, lustrous and warm, each skein carries the character of hand-raised animals and the care of artisanal spinning.

Ideal for next-to-skin garments, delicate accessories and heirloom projects, this yarn offers a luxurious drape and subtle halo that elevates every stitch. Sustainably produced, traceable to our farm, and finished with pride—perfect for makers who value quality, provenance and timeless beauty.

Softness and handle

  • Exceptionally soft: Alpaca fibres are smoother and finer than sheep’s wool, giving a plush, silky hand that feels gentle against the skin.

  • Lightweight warmth: The yarn provides excellent insulation without bulk; garments feel warm yet light to wear.

  • Drapes well: Alpaca fibre’s natural sheen and smoothness produce a fluid drape, ideal for shawls, cardigans, and scarves that need movement.

Warmth and insulation

  • High thermal efficiency: Alpaca fibres trap air within their core, offering superior warmth compared with many other animal fibers.

  • Breathable: Despite its insulating properties, alpaca breathes well and helps regulate temperature.

Strength and durability

  • Strong and resilient: Well-spun alpaca yarn holds up to regular use; 8-ply construction adds structure and reduces the tendency to stretch out of shape.

  • Less pilling: While not immune to pilling, alpaca often pills less than softer sheep’s wool.

Texture and appearance

  • Natural luster: Alpaca has a subtle sheen that enhances stitch definition, making cables, lace, and textured patterns stand out.

  • Smooth stitch definition: The fibre takes to smooth, even stitches, so patterns are clear and crisp. There are some minor imperfections to each skein as this is not a commercially made yarn, please keep this in mind. We think this adds character to the yarn!

Hypoallergenic qualities

  • Low lanolin content: Alpaca contains little to no lanolin, which makes it a good alternative for people with wool sensitivities or lanolin allergies.

Care considerations

  • Gentle handling recommended: Handwashing in cool water with a mild detergent or wool wash preserves softness and loft. Avoid hot water and agitation to prevent felting.

  • Blocking: Alpaca relaxes and blooms; light blocking can improve drape and even out stitches.

  • Drying: Reshape and dry flat to maintain garment shape; avoid hanging when wet to prevent stretching.
